[Bern] – [28 July 2026] – Heavy metal outfit Antipodes has officially announced the release of their newest single: a crushing, reimagined cover of the iconic 80s synth-pop anthem, "I Ran (So Far Away)”, to be released on 1 August 2026.

For Antipodes, releasing an 80s pop cover isn't a gimmick; it is the ultimate expression of the band's musical philosophy and the direct inspiration for their name.

The Art of the Opposite

The word "antipodes" refers to things that are diametrically opposed, which perfectly encapsulates the band's core vision.

"We absolutely love 80s pop, and our entire identity as a band is built on combining extreme contrasts," explains singer Matteo Cellini. "We thrive on mashing together genres and sounds that have absolutely no business being in the same room together."

Driven by this love for musical juxtaposition, the band decided to set a unique challenge for themselves: find the absolute least metal song they could possibly imagine, tear it down to its foundation, and rebuild it in their own heavy image. The undeniable winner of that search was A Flock of Seagulls' neon-soaked, synth-driven classic, "I Ran (So Far Away)."

From the Dancefloor to the Mosh Pit

Antipodes didn't just turn up the distortion on a pop song; they completely re-arranged the track. It was a rigorous exercise in songwriting to force a fundamentally pop structure into a heavy metal framework while keeping the catchy soul of the original track alive.

By stripping away the breezy synthesizers and replacing them with blistering riffs, a thunderous rhythm section, and a dark, aggressive atmosphere, the band has successfully built a bridge between 1982 and modern metal.
