From Matt:
Petrichor is more than a moody ballad, it’s a deeply personal self-acceptance manifesto: the song portrays the inner journey from paralysis and emotional overwhelm toward a renewal, based on the Jungian concepts of Individuation and Shadow.
Adversities are chances: old wounds and blame weigh us all down, and confronting them consciously, deciding what to release, what to accept, and how to rebuild, it’s a perilous process, but a necessary one. One cannot change who they are, but they can learn to be one with their darker side and turn inner turmoil into a source of strength, clarity, and authenticity. In pain, we grow.
From Manuel:
When Matt first sent me this song, I immediately felt its emotional weight. The harmonies and structure he had written inspired me to take it a step further by introducing subtle key changes and adding a ’70s-inspired prog-rock, almost jazzy bridge to musically reflect the winding road of the protagonist’s inner journey. With “Petrichor,” we are excited to reveal a previously unexplored side of Antipodes and showcase our ever-expanding musical and thematic vocabulary.
